A portrait commission begins with a meeting to discuss the scope and size of the portrait, sittings schedule, and the delivery date. Herb prefers to work from life, but can also work entirely from photographs. Approximately, one to five sittings are necessary to complete a portrait.
House portraits are painted in watercolor or oil. They are done from photographs provided by the client or taken by Mr. Randle if feasible. Often, a small sketch can be provided to show the client a general idea of the artist's approach. The finished product can usually be provided in a few weeks or sooner if necessary. Edie Randle does her animal portraits from photographs taken by her or provided by the client. She works in pastel and a typical work, head and shoulders or full figure measures 16“x20” –18”x24”. |
